Conservative Treatment of Arthritis
When you have pain and arthritis in your knee or hip, we always start with a trial of conservative treatment. If we can get your pain under control and you can get back to the activities you enjoy without surgery, that's a win. Initial conservative treatment typically includes a trial of an anti-inflammatory medication such as meloxicam or Celebrex, utilizing physical therapy to increase muscle strength and range of motion, and various injections such as corticosteroids, hyaluronic acid, or PRP to decrease pain and inflammation. As long as these conservative treatments are working, Dr. Gholson will continue caring for your knee or hip without surgery. The decision for when to proceed with surgery is personal, and you will never be pushed to proceed with surgery with Dr. Gholson. If you want an opinion on how you can improve your hip or knee pain without surgery, come see Dr. Gholson to discuss your options.
